Who we are

The short version
There are no accounts here, no comments, no uploads and nothing to subscribe to, so there is not much of you on this site to begin with. Four things do involve your data: the calculators record what is typed into them for ninety days, Google Analytics counts visits, Google AdSense serves the advertising, and the contact form is handled by an outside service. That is the entire list, and each one is set out below.
What the calculators record
About a second and a half after you stop typing in a calculator, your browser sends what you entered to our server. We store the values you filled in, the result, the address of the page you were on, the language you were using, your IP address, and the identification string your browser sends about itself.
The Save result button sends the same thing. It does not save anything to your device and there is no account for it to be saved to — it is the same record, made deliberately rather than automatically.
We use those records to see which calculators people actually use, which inputs break them, and how a wrong answer came about. That is our legitimate interest in keeping the tools working. They are not used to target advertising, they are not combined with the analytics or advertising data described below, and they are not sold or shared with anyone.
They are deleted after ninety days by a job that runs every night. Nothing has to be requested for that to happen.
The developer tools under /tech — the JSON, XML, HTML, XPath and URL tools and the generators — record nothing at all. What gets pasted into those is usually the most sensitive text on the site, so they run entirely in your browser and send nothing anywhere.
Cookies we set ourselves
Two, both technical, both expiring two hours after your last page view:
calculatornu-session— holds the anonymous session the site needs to accept a form submission. It is marked HttpOnly, so no script can read it.XSRF-TOKEN— the matching token that proves a submission came from a page on this site rather than from somewhere else.
Neither identifies you, neither survives the day, and we set no cookie of our own that follows you between visits. The cookies that do persist are Google's, and they are covered next.
Advertising: Google AdSense
Advertising on these sites is sold by Google AdSense under publisher id pub-9308166482322652,
which is declared in the ads.txt file at the root of each domain. To select, cap and measure
advertising, Google and its advertising partners may set cookies and read device identifiers through the ad
code that runs on these pages.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, Google's consent dialog appears on your first visit and asks before personalised advertising is used. You can reopen it and change your answer through the privacy settings link in that dialog. Independently of this site, you can turn personalised advertising off for your Google account at adssettings.google.com, and Google explains what it collects as an advertising partner at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
We never receive your name, your contact details or your browsing history from AdSense. What reaches us is a count of impressions and earnings.
Analytics: Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, property G-KWJ4KT8QSB, to count visits and see which pages are
worth improving. It records the pages you view, roughly where you are — derived from your IP address, not
from your device's location — which browser and device you use, and which site or search you arrived from.
It sets its own cookies to recognise a returning browser, and its data is held for the retention period
configured in that Google Analytics account.
Google publishes a browser add-on that switches Analytics off everywhere at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
The contact form
The form on our contact page is not ours. It is a hosted widget loaded from an external service, and what you type into it — your name, your email address and your message — is transmitted to and stored by that service so that we can read it and reply. We use it to answer you and nothing else: there is no mailing list here to add you to.
If you would rather not use an outside service, the operator details at the top of this page reach us directly.
Who else is involved
- Google — advertising and analytics, as described above.
- The provider hosting our contact form and the feed that supplies part of our page content.
- Our hosting provider, which runs the server and keeps the ordinary access logs any web server keeps.
Some of those process data outside the European Economic Area, principally in the United States. Where that happens it is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
What we do not do
No accounts and no passwords. No comments and no profile pictures. Nothing can be uploaded to this site, so there are no images of yours here and no location data inside them. No newsletter. No payments, which means no card details anywhere. We do not sell or rent data to anyone, and we do not build profiles of visitors.
If you have read a privacy policy on this site before and it described comments, avatars and media uploads, that was a template that had nothing to do with what this site does. This page replaces it.
How long things are kept
- Calculator records — ninety days, then deleted automatically.
- Messages you send us — as long as the question is open, and afterwards only while the answer is still useful.
- Analytics — the retention period set in the Google Analytics account.
- Advertising cookies — the lifetimes Google sets, described in its own policy.
- Our own cookies — two hours.
- Server access logs — the short rolling window our hosting provider keeps.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict what we do with it, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and ask for it in a portable form. Consent for personalised advertising can be withdrawn at any time through the dialog described above.
One practical note. The only thing that ties a calculator record to a person is an IP address and a timestamp, so to find yours we would need the approximate time and the address you were using — and after ninety days there is nothing left to find.
Write to us through the contact form and we will answer within a month. If you are not satisfied, you have the right to complain to your data protection authority: the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens in the Netherlands, the Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit in Belgium, or the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom.
Children
These sites are aimed at anyone who needs a calculation, not at children in particular, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When the site changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated. We do not announce revisions any other way, so the date is the thing to check.
